MN – The Memorial Day Observance will start at 9 a.m. at the flag pole outside
of the Hastings Veterans Home. There will be multiple stops through the town
and honors will be performed by VFW Post 1210 and American Legion Post 47 of
Hastings. There will also be special recognition of Gold Star Mothers and

MN –The Memorial Day program will be held on Thursday, May 30 beginning at 2:30
p.m. in the dining room. The guest speaker will be American Legion Department
Vice Commander for the 2 & 7 Districts, Jane Ellefson. The honor guard will
consist of members from Luverne’s American Legion Post 123 and Luverne’s VFW

MN – The Memorial Day program, sponsored by the 5th District American Legion,
will begin at 2 p.m. outside of Building 15 Chapel. In case of inclement

Shellito. Colors will be posted by the Memorial Rifle Squad, Fort Snelling

LITTLE
FALLS, MN - The State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls is hosting its annual
Memorial Service the day before Memorial Day. The event is open to the public
and will begin Sunday the 26th at 1:30 p.m. with instrumental music provided by the Richfield
Symphonic Band, the traditional Parade of Flags and a placing of the wreaths
and the first public showing of the US Navy painting commissioned for the
Veterans Educational Historic Project. The keynote speaker will be Lt Col Mark
M. Weber, who recently released a book titled “Tell My Son’s.” Minnesota

Minnesota
Military Radio will have a special live broadcast on Memorial Day, Monday, May
27 from 6 a.m. – 9 a.m. Special guests include Governor Mark Dayton, Secretary

VFW Ride for Healing
The
VFW Ride for Healing is a week-long event that begins with a ceremony at the
Minnesota Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Motorcycles and classic cars will leave
St. Paul and travel to all four corners of the state, and recognition rallies
will be held in more than 60 communities over the four-day period. The event

The Governor’s Civil War Commemorative Task
Force in conjunctions with leading local historians will dedicate Memorial Day
this year to the commemoration of the great 1863 Battle of Gettysburg and the
historic contribution of Minnesota’s soldiers. This will feature the dedication
of new grave markers for three of the four Minnesota soldiers killed at the
Battle of Gettysburg who were returned for burial in Minnesota. These three men
represent the more than seventy-five (75) Minnesotan killed in this historic battle.
The first of these events will take
place on Friday evening May 24th at 6:30 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery at
1865 140th Street in Hastings; in a unique twilight ceremony for
Sargent James Akers. Featured presenters at this event will be Stephen Osman former
Curator of Historical Fort Snelling and Brian Leehan author of the acclaim book
on the First Minnesota at Gettysburg, The
Pale Horse of Plum Run. The event will include a rededication ceremony by
First Minnesota Re-enactors and the event will be followed by a reception at
the LeDuc Historic Estate, at 1629 Vermillion St. in Hastings.
On Monday morning of Memorial
Day, May 27, 2013 grave rededication ceremonies will be held at Oakland
Cemetery at 927 Jackson St. in St. Paul for Captain Wilson Farrell and in
Bayport at St. Michael’s Cemetery at 700 5th Avenue North for Captain Louis Muller.
The event at Oakland at the grave of Captain Farrell will begin at 11:30 a.m.
following the traditional Memorial Day Celebration at the Soldiers Rest area of
the Cemetery. St. Paul Historian Pat
Hill will lead the ceremony which will be followed by his annual outstanding
Civil War tour of historic Oakland Cemetery with Pat’s unique insight into its
many Generals and other Civil War and Dakota War participants and history. The
event in Bayport for Captain Louis Muller will also begin at 11:30 at St.
Michael’s Cemetery in Bayport and will be conducted by Washington County
Historian Ken Martens. The rededication at Captain Muller’s grave will follow
the annual Memorial Day Parade in Bayport and will feature in addition to
presentations on the Battle of Gettysburg and the life of Captain Muller a gun
salute by the First US Light Artillery, Battery I Civil War re-enactment group.
All of the events are open to the public and
will be held rain or shine. Direction to all three events will be posted on the
