For over 15 years, the award-winning Minnesota Military Radio (MMR) has been the forum for retelling the stories of Minnesota’s heroes. Retired Command Sergeant Major, Veteran and volunteer host Doug Wortham shares these stories which are carried on 72 broadcasting stations throughout the state of Minnesota, and broadcasted nationally on the Wreaths Across America Radio Network, in an effort to preserve the stories of our Veterans and keep listeners up to date on things happening at MDVA and in our Veteran Community here in Minnesota.

The Minnesota Humanities Center invites you to join them for "Objects of War: A Storytelling Circle," an engaging event focused on stories of community, consolation and courage. For Objects of War, participants are asked to bring an item connected to an experience of war and conflict — which could be dog tags, a service member’s good luck charm or a family heirloom — and share the story of this item during the evening. Moderated by trained facilitators, the conversation will help participants understand why we hold on to certain objects and how these objects help us better understand the human impacts of war.

The Global Military Learning Network (GMLN) is an initiative that helps active-duty service members, Veterans and their families turn military training and experience into meaningful college credit. By meticulously mapping military occupational specialties (MOS) to academic degrees, GMLN is maximizing credit transfer and streamlining pathways to high demand occupations including healthcare administration, cybersecurity, medical coding and more. Improved transfer makes it easier, faster and less costly for students to transition from military to civilian careers.
GMLN bridge programs are built as stackable pathways, so credits earned for a certificate apply directly toward diplomas and associate degrees. Support continues from entry through completion, helping service members move efficiently from military training to recognized credentials. By thinking differently about how education is delivered, we can serve students better. The U.S. Veterans Administration’s (VA) National Center for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) aims to support and educate those who experience trauma or PTSD-related symptoms. Tools and resources can help you on your wellness journey.
It can be challenging to support a friend or loved one with PTSD. It can strain relationships and create challenges at home. If you have a loved one with PTSD there are resources to support you as well.
The first step in supporting someone with PTSD is understanding what it is. We invite you to learn the basics of PTSD. Once you understand the basics, you can begin to advocate for your loved one.

Metro State University’s Cyber4Heroes program delivers intensive, online cybersecurity training designed to prepare participants for high-demand roles within the Department of Defense Cyber Workforce Framework (DCWF). Through two specialized pathways — Software/Cloud Architect and Security Architect — participants gain up to seven industry-recognized certifications and become eligible for 18 mission-critical DCWF roles. The program builds expertise across IT, cybersecurity, cloud operations, cyber defense, vulnerability assessment and enterprise security leadership.
Training is delivered in an asynchronous online format, allowing participants to balance learning with personal and professional commitments. Participants receive mentorship, free exam vouchers, career skills workshops and job placement assistance, ensuring they are workforce-ready at graduation. Offered at no cost to selected military personnel, transitioning first responders and Veterans, Cyber4Heroes develops a well-rounded and highly skilled cyber workforce ready to operate, defend and lead across the DoD cyber enterprise.

The Saint Paul Association was established in 1984 by former Saint Paul crew members Hank Koehler and Ike Alliger, who wished to commemorate the U.S.S. Saint Paul CA-73 and to renew and maintain the deep friendships developed by former shipmates during their time onboard. The Association has held bi-annual reunions since the mid 1980s.
The Roving Saint, a quarterly publication, is received by all members. The Association has also opened its membership to former crewmen of the U.S.S. Minneapolis - Saint Paul SSN-708 and all former members of the U.S. Navy Cruiser Sailors Association which ceased operations 2022.
Saint Paul, known to its crew as the “Fighting Saint” participated in three wars, served its country honorably for 26 years [1945-1971] in both war and peace. She is believed to have fired more rounds of naval gunfire at our enemies than any U.S. Navy cruiser. Truly a distinguished ship of the line. Today there are over 1300 association members still active.

The County Veterans Services Officer (CVSO) performs complex administrative work directing, supervising and providing services aimed at helping Veterans to obtain benefits through local, state, federal or other agencies, maintaining records and reports, and related work as apparent or assigned. They also evaluate and assess the success of the services provided and recommend additional services as needed. Work involves setting policies and goals under the direction of the County Commissioners and County Administrator. The CVSO also exercises supervision over all personnel within the department.

Food insecurity knows no boundaries – impacting all walks of life, including those who have served our nation. There’s a new effort to make sure our heroes have food to eat.
The Minnesota Veterans Food Pantry serves as a key fundraising platform of the Minneapolis VA’s pop-up food pantry, which occurs every third Tuesday of the month from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Those in need will receive a food box that includes shelf stable items (boxed meals/canned items), frozen items (meat/fish), and fresh items (fruits/vegetables).
Staff members are also on site to connect Veterans with other resources available through the VA.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges among adults. You’ll build skills and confidence you need to reach out and provide initial support to those who are struggling. You’ll also learn how to help connect them to appropriate support.
This class will be held virtually and requires two hours of self-paced pre-coursework before attending the six-hour instructor-led, virtual portion of the class.
