Quarterly Stakeholders Meeting Offers Veterans Home Update

In January, Chippewa County Commissioners, City Staff members, local media representatives, Veteran Service Officer representatives, a variety of long-time planners and advocates for Montevideo’s new Veterans Home and Jim Williams—brother of Steve Williams, whose generous estate contribution is helping to fund the Home’s Community Center—met with MDVA Commissioner Larry Herke, Deputy Commissioner of Healthcare Douglas Hughes and other senior leaders for updates on the project. Ashley Bormann, new Home Administrator, helped lead the meeting.

In September 2022, potential Residents began submitting applications to live at the Montevideo Veterans Home. To date, dozens of applications have been received. Move-ins are anticipated to occur in fall 2023.

Hutchinson VFW Post 906 donates $10,000 to Montevideo Veterans Home

The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) was honored to receive a very generous donation of $80,000 from the Department of Minnesota Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Charles McLaughlin Post 906 in Hutchinson, MN. This donation specifically was provided to each individual State Veterans Home, which will receive $10,000 per location.

Future Homes such as Montevideo will use this funding to purchase televisions for Residents’ bedrooms, an expense that skilled nursing care Residents would traditionally cover themselves. Thank you to Charles McLaughlin Post 906 in Hutchinson. Your partnership is essential in helping us provide the highest level of care to those who have served!

Fun Facts

  • Approximately 10,300 square feet of glazing, curtain windows and storefront will be installed on this project.
  • The Montevideo Veterans Home has 145 variable refrigerant flow units, 72 of which are responsible for a single Resident unit each. This will allow a Resident to control the temperature in their own room independently of any other room in the building
