More than one in 10 Veterans have been diagnosed with a substance use disorder, slightly higher than the general population, according to the National Institutes for Health. Couple that with mental health issues and dealing with the challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, and it would not be surprising to hear of Veterans struggling to maintain their sobriety.

WWII Veteran Residents at the Minnesota Veterans Home - Minneapolis recently received very special face masks made from a military parachute used in WWII from The Mask Movement and Spano family of Minneapolis. The masks were presented to Residents on December 7, 2020, Pearl Harbor Day.

With the holiday season upon us and the coronavirus pandemic continuing to intensify, our nation faces unprecedented levels of stress and anxiety. VA offers many virtual self-care resources to assist with stress management, including several free mobile apps for anyone to download. The VA App Store houses a suite of mental health apps, designed in partnership with multiple VA offices. If you encounter Veterans or others who are struggling, consider recommending one of the many options available.

The MDVA COVID-19 K-12 Distance Learning Support Grant in the amount of $3,000 is to help mitigate the negative financial impact a family experiences by implementing their school district’s distance learning or hybrid learning plans by providing a one-time grant.
Applicants for the COVID-19 K-12 Distance Learning Support Grant must demonstrate a negative financial impact on or after August 1, 2020. A closing date for the K-12 Distance Learning Support Grant will depend on the availability of funding, but not later than June 30, 2021. In addition to the Distance Learning Grant, the following Grants are still available to Minnesota Veterans.
