Helping Preserve Natural Resources by Increasing Recycling and Waste Diversion

The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) operates five Minnesota State Veterans Homes located on scenic campuses throughout the state where Residents and staff not only value the natural beauty of their surroundings, they also recognize the need to help protect it. In recognition of Nov. 15 as America Recycles Day, MDVA is proud to share how we are helping protect the environment at our Minnesota Veterans Homes while providing the high-quality care and services our Veteran Residents, and their families, have earned.

Governor Walz Announces End to Veteran Homelessness in Five Suburban Metro Area Counties

On Veterans Day, Governor Tim Walz, a 24-year Veteran of the National Guard, announced that five suburban metro area counties have received federal designation for ending Veteran homelessness. The designation, given to the Suburban Metro Area Continuum of Care (SMAC), includes Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Scott, and Washington counties.

This year, in accordance with state-wide limitations on large group gatherings as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, MDVA produced a 30-minute video to honor our state’s Veterans. The video is available on MDVA’s website at MinnesotaVeteran.org/Veteransday2020.

The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) proudly observes November as Native American Heritage Month as proclaimed by Governor Tim Walz in recognition that Minnesota is located on ancestral and contemporary lands that have been called home by Indigenous Peoples since time immemorial.

Caregivers Essential to Veteran Health and Safety

The Minnesota Veterans Homes are honored to care for our Residents and look forward to caring for those waiting for future care. We recognize the importance of supporting Veterans’ family members and caregivers and want to ensure they have access to programs and reliable information. The Minnesota Veterans Homes developed and compiled the following resources to support caregivers.

COVID-19 Distance Learning Support Grant

MDVA is now offering a COVID-19 K-12 Distance Learning Support Grant in the amount of $3,000 to help mitigate the negative financial impact a family experiences by implementing their school district’s distance learning or hybrid learning plans by providing a one-time grant.

Applicants for the COVID-19 K-12 Distance Learning Support Grant must demonstrate a negative financial impact on or after August 1, 2020. A closing date for the K-12 Distance Learning Support Grant will depend on the availability of funding, but not later than June 30, 2021.
