I hope you are enjoying our long-awaited summer in Minnesota. At the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA), summer brings a number of opportunities to celebrate and recognize achievements. In June alone, we have already or will recognize the 75th anniversary of D-Day on June 6, Flag Day on June 14, the 75th anniversary of the Federal GI educational benefits bill on June 22, and American Allies Day on June 30. We also celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne on June 7.

Minnesota Veterans Home - Luverne celebrates 25th anniversary

After proudly caring for more than 841 Minnesota Veterans and their families since opening in 1994, the Minnesota Veterans Home - Luverne recognized its 25th anniversary with a community celebration on Friday, June 7. The public, current and former staff, volunteers, Resident Veterans, families and friends of the Veterans Home gathered to reflect on a quarter century of caring for our nation’s heroes.

“Helicopter Angels” from Minnesota Veteran’s Home Adult Day Receive Make Zero Harm Possible Award

A team of program assistants from the Minnesota Veteran’s Home – Minneapolis Adult Day Center are the first recipients of the Make Zero Harm Possible award from LeadingAge Minnesota. Olubunmi Gbadamosi, Mary Falkowski, Maggie McGown and Gloria Smith were recognized for their work to reduce falls among clients who attend the Adult Day Center.

Veterans Career Fair

Minnesota Veterans Employment Services invites all Veterans, active military members, and their spouses to this 13th annual event Wednesday, July 24, 2019. Over 100 employers will be on-site. In addition, the event will include providers who offer services for Veterans.

This no-cost event for job seekers brings together:

  • Employers, who can provide company information, speak with you about current job openings and interview you for open positions on site.
  • Service providers who can assist with your employment-related needs, as well as provide information and referrals to non-work related services for Veterans.
  • Resource area staffed by HR professionals to assist with resume critique and job search advice.
  • Professional photographer available to take pictures for LinkedIn profile.

Future Minnesota State Veterans Homes Update

During the 2018 Legislative Session, Governor Dayton and the Minnesota State Legislature allocated $32 million in Chapter 214, HF 4425 of the Omnibus Bonding Bill for three new State Veterans Homes in Bemidji, Montevideo and Preston. Below are updates on each Home.
