Desk of the Commissioner - November

Commissioner Shellito

November started with the Veterans Day ceremony at the Inver Grove Heights Armory which continues to be our state’s official location in honoring our Veterans. In addition to that ceremony, my wife and I were also able to attend the ceremony over at the Minneapolis Veterans Home. Again, there is something special being surrounded by Veterans at the Home. The service they have provided this nation is special. The generations are changing with the passing of the World War II generation.

A Veterans Day to Remember

The Official State of Minnesota Veterans Day Program was held Sunday, November 11 at the Veterans Memorial Community Center in Inver Grove Heights. The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs along with Veterans, families, elected officials and community members celebrated and honored all Veterans who have served this country. This year’s program had a focus on the Commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the Armistice that ended WWI – with a very special nation-wide Tolling of the Bell that was held at precisely 11 a.m. A special thank you from MDVA to all who attended and participated in this remarkable event.
