As we wrap up the month of September, it is clearly evident that the winter season is fast approaching. I write this column just after my wife and I attended the deployment ceremony for over 650 of our National Guard “Red Bulls” who will be deployed overseas for a year. The event was held in St. Paul and was very well attended by family, friends and dignitaries and was just a great way for Minnesotans to say thank you to those who serve!

Now Accepting Veterans Day Event Submissions

In recognition of Veterans Day on Sunday, Nov. 11, the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs is compiling a list of Veterans Day events around the state. Community organizers statewide are encouraged to submit event information to MDVA by Nov. 1 to be included on our website, social media, and distributed to media throughout Minnesota.

Hastings Veterans Home Welcomes New Administrator

The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) is pleased to announce the selection of Michael Anderson as Administrator of the Minnesota State Veterans Home in Hastings. Anderson began his role Sept. 17 at the domiciliary care facility. 

Anderson has more than seven years of experience in the health care sector. Before joining MDVA he worked as the Executive Director at the Frazee Care Center, which is part of Health Dimensions Group. There he led the overall operations and provided an environment of high quality resident centered care.

MDVA Staff Awarded with LeadingAge Minnesota Scholarship

Two Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) staff members were recently awarded scholarships from the LeadingAge Minnesota Foundation. The $1,500 Foundation Scholarships went to Krista Larum, a Registered Nurse at the Fergus Falls Veterans Home and Hanna Lewis, a Health Unit Coordinator at the Minneapolis Veterans Home.
