The fall season is fast approaching as evidenced by the ads promoting the Minnesota State Fair. During the State Fair, the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA), along with Veteran Service Organizations will be on site to answer questions or visit and will be located just inside the main entrance of the Education Building – Booth 32.

Military Appreciation Day at the Minnesota State Fair - Aug. 28

Calling all Women Veterans! This year the Minnesota State Fair Military Appreciation Day on August 28 is dedicated to honoring Women Veterans and military members of all eras. The official ceremony will be held in the Leinie Lodge Bandshell at 9:45 a.m. Women Veterans are encouraged to arrive by 9:30 a.m. and look for uniformed servicewomen, who will escort them to seating in the front rows.

Hastings Veterans Home Turns 40

Hastings Home Turns 40

The Minnesota Veterans Home - Hastings campus is celebrating a monumental anniversary this year; it has been a home to Veterans for 40 years. The Hastings Home was established in 1978 to assist Veterans struggling with chemical dependency, mental health illnesses, the effects of aging and much more. Today, the Domiciliary program provides a safe home environment for approximately 130 Veterans of varying ages and medical conditions. This facility finds its home in Hastings, Minn. – a small river community that truly supports Minnesota’s Veterans.

Vietnam Era Veterans Recognized at Minneapolis Veterans Home

On Thursday, August 9 the Minneapolis Veterans Home gave special honor to Vietnam Era Veterans. Deputy Commissioner of Veterans Health Care, Douglas Hughes and Minneapolis Administrator, Thomas Paul awarded all Vietnam era Veteran Residents with Vietnam Veteran Lapel Pins and a proclamation from President Barack Obama thanking them for their service.
