Southwest Minnesota Clears Waiting List For Homeless Veterans Within the State

In March 18 counties in Southwest Minnesota announced they have cleared their housing waiting list for homeless Veterans. In a letter to the Southwest Continuum of Care (CoC) region, the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness, HUD, and VA, determined these counties have effectively ended homelessness among Veterans, becoming the 40th community in the nation to do so. The Southwest CoC is Minnesota’s first region to reach this historic goal.

National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations Announces the 2017 Ellis Island Medals of Honor Recipients

Commissioner Larry Shellito Among the Exceptional Americans Honored 

The National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations (NECO), announced the recipients of the 2017 Ellis Island Medals of Honor. Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs Commissioner and Retired Major General Larry Shellito of Woodbury, Minnesota along with legendary former astronaut Buzz Aldrin, Chairman and CEO of PepsiCo Indra Nooyi, TV host and journalist Fareed Zakaria, CEO of HSN Mindy Grossman, former actress and film studio executive Sherry Lansing, chef and restaurateur Thomas Keller, are amongst the one-hundred outstanding Americans in business, government, medicine, art, and education, as well as honorees from all branches of the military, who will receive the 2017 medal.

MDVA Women Veterans Conference - May 25

The 2017 Women Veterans Conference will take place May 25 at the Ramada Plymouth Hotel & Conference Center from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
