March has been a special month announcing that the Southwest Continuum of Care is the first in the state to end Veteran Homelessness!  This would not have been possible without the help and collaboration of numerous partnerships. Does this mean we can take our foot off the gas as it relates to funding and assistance? Of course not!  This is when the real work begins!  It is essential that we keep our rapid response plan in place to prevent others from falling into homelessness.

Minnesota Veterans Cemetery – Preston Receives ACEC Honor Award

The Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery - Preston, in partnership with Stantec recently received an American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Honor Award. The award was received for engineering services provided by Stantec for Phase 1 Development at the recently opened cemetery.

We often hear what appears on the surface to be a simple question, “What is a Veteran?” There are many interpretations of the word Veteran, and state and federal laws differ as well. In some cases, an individual may not meet the state or federal criteria, but may still be eligible for some benefits. Veterans Day on the Hill Recap

On March 20 the Minnesota Commanders’ Task Force (CTF), together with the United Veterans Legislative Council (UVLC) and the Minnesota Association of County Veterans Service Officers (MACVSOs) held a joint Veterans Day on the Hill event to announce their 2017 legislative agendas. Veterans Day on the Hill was a day when Veterans of all eras in Minnesota united as one common voice to represent the 350,000 Veterans in Minnesota. This year’s program was emceed by the Minnesota Commanders’ Task Force Chair Denise Milton. Featured speakers included:

  • Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka 
  • House Speaker Kurt Daudt 
  • Senator Bruce Anderson 
  • Senator Roger Chamberlain
  • Senator Jerry Newton
  • Representative Bob Dettmer
  • MACVSO President Jason Marquardt
  • UVLC Chair Ralph Donais

MDVA Women Veterans Conference - May 25

The 2017 Women Veterans Conference will take place May 25 at the Ramada Plymouth Hotel & Conference Center from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

Admission is free. All ages, eras, and branches of Military Women are encouraged to attend! Registration is now open.
