St. Cloud, Minn: A Veterans Town Hall Meeting is scheduled for March 8, at 5 p.m., at American Legion Post 270, located at 304 10th Avenue South, in Buffalo, Minnesota.
The meeting is intended to serve two purposes: to recognize the service of Vietnam-era Veterans living in Wright County and surrounding areas; and to provide area Veterans an opportunity to hear from and have concerns addressed by St. Cloud VA officials.
The St. Cloud VA is a commemorative partner in the national Vietnam War Commemoration, and is committed to publicly thanking and honoring Vietnam Veterans and their families.
According to Kerri Schwegel, Outreach Coordinator for the St. Cloud VA, many Vietnam Veterans have never been told “thank-you.”
“We want to change that,” she said.
“Vietnam-era Veterans and families desiring to participate in the commemoration event can simply show up and check in,” Schwegel said.
The Vietnam Veteran recognition ceremony is the first item on the agenda and the town hall meeting will take place immediately afterwards.
Beginning at 4 p.m., County Veteran Services and VA staff will be available to discuss enrollment in VA health care and provide information on the full range of Veterans benefit programs.
About the Vietnam War Commemoration:
Authorized by Congress, established under the Secretary of Defense, and launched by the President in May 2012, the Vietnam War Commemoration recognizes all men and women who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces from November 1, 1955 to May 15, 1975. Nine million Americans, approximately 7 million living today, served during that period, and the Commemoration makes no distinction between Veterans who served in-country, in-theater, or were stationed elsewhere during that period. All answered the call of duty.
By presidential proclamation issued on May 25, 2012, the Commemoration extends from its inaugural event on Memorial Day 2012 through Veterans Day 2025.

A joint project between the Minnesota Military Museum at Camp Ripley
and the St. Cloud State University archives has made 35 Minnesota
County Honor Rolls available to the public through the Minnesota Digital
Library.
“The best way to describe these books is to picture a high school year book, but instead of smiling high school seniors, the photos and stories are of the men and women in uniform” stated Ryan Welle Minnesota Military Museum archivist. “It is unclear how many counties in Minnesota published these books on their WW l Veterans, but we had 35 of them and wanted to share them with all Minnesotans,” continued Welle.

The Minnesota Military Museum wants your story for their “Veterans Registry.”
The Registry is a statewide database containing information about the military service of Minnesota Veterans. A qualified Veteran is anyone who once served or is serving in the US military and was either born in Minnesota or lived in Minnesota.
The Registry is easy to use and anyone can submit a Veterans story and pictures of the Veteran. This service is also free and a great way to preserve a record of your service for your family.
Interested Veterans and individuals should visit the Minnesota Military Museum website and click on Veterans Registry.
The Minnesota Military Museum is open seven days a week from May through September and Thursdays and Fridays from October through April, with special tours coordinated at any time.
