Memorial Day is fast approaching and I have been given the special honor of delivering the keynote address at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery Memorial Day event. The Fort Snelling remembrance has always been a key event within Minnesota.  As I prepare my comments, I am filled with a flood of memories, both good and sad. From my experiences while deployed to Vietnam as a young Infantryman – to my responsibility as Adjutant General in deploying young men and women to Afghanistan and Iraq, I am reminded that Minnesota is truly blessed to have a generation of citizen-soldiers willing to answer our nation’s call to service

Salute to Women Veterans Event

The 2015 Salute to Women Veterans event took place May 16 at Cragun's Resort in Brainerd, Minn. Hosted by the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs, the theme focused on "Celebrating Courage and Promoting Wellness" for all female Veterans.

An Inside Look at the MDVA Women Veterans and Gold Star Families Programs

Minnesota National Guard Veteran, Ashley Laganiere, recently became the Gold Star Family and Women Veterans Program Coordinator for the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs.

The mission of the Minnesota Women Veterans Program is to ensure women Veterans have equal access to federal and state benefits and services. The program responds to gender specific needs of women Veterans and ensures that women Veterans are treated with dignity and respect. It is also geared towards offering the appropriate benefits and services needed for women, primarily in healthcare.
