ECN is working with NENA to bring the Demystifying NG9-1-1 Call Flow course to Minnesota. We are coordinating with NENA to identify an upcoming date that works for instructors and participants. Once arrangements are finalized, we will share course details and registration information with PSAPs and other stakeholders.

 John Gendron advocates for accessible 911 services.
A recent Lakeland PBS story highlighted Pillager resident John Gendron, who has cerebral palsy and uses eye-controlled technology to communicate. John reached out to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office to find a faster, more accessible way to contact 911 during an emergency.
ECN MNIT Manager Joe Fick is currently working with John and Sheriff Welk to explore options to allow John’s communication technology to connect with 911.

 Next month (October) is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, recognized by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) of the U.S. government. This is a great time to reinforce cybersecurity best practices at your place of work. CISA has put together a robust toolkit of resources for the public to use, from graphics and posters to practical tips you can copy and paste into emails. Check it out!

ECN staff got the word out for 911 services at the State Fair this year. Whether we were asking folks questions at the trivia wheel or handing out Text-to-911 stress balls, we had many conversations with the public about emergency communications services here in Minnesota. It was a great turnout, and we cannot wait for next year!

James Kambiri
Program Director, 911 Operations
James Kambiri joined the ECN team in July as the Program Director of 911 Operations. This position provides leadership for Minnesota’s statewide 911 Program and works closely with PSAPs, public safety agencies, vendors and policymakers to advance NG911 and other statewide 911 priorities. James brings more than 20 years of leadership experience in public sector and nonprofit organizations, with expertise in program management, strategic planning, regulatory compliance, stakeholder collaboration and staff development.
Throughout his career, James has led complex programs, managed multidisciplinary teams and built partnerships to improve services and outcomes for communities across Minnesota. He brings a collaborative and practical approach to his work, with a focus on listening, building strong relationships and finding solutions that work for the people and communities that 911 serves.
Outside of work, James enjoys spending time with family, particularly playing strategy games like Wyrmspan and Everdell, along with other card and party games. A longtime Marvel fan, he’s been rewatching the movies and series in timeline order. During football season, James follows the NFL and cheers for the Green Bay Packers — a choice that he acknowledges can be a little controversial in Minnesota.
