Project Background
The DVS Identity and Access Management (IAM) project began in March 2023 and will continue through mid-2024. The purpose of the project is to create a framework for policies, processes, and tools for administering user identities and controlling access to systems and our network. For our deputy registrars, driver's license agents, and dealers the primary system impacted by this project is MNDRIVE.
Your office may have been contacted by business analyst Dana Jabs in an effort to document current processes. Dana may have asked you to provide information about background checks and onboarding, staff training, security of data and access to protected data, and if Real ID are processed at your location, to name a few examples. Dana's questions are based on satisfying state and federal requirements for access to public and private data.
Not every office will be contacted, but if Dana has contacted your office or does so in the future, please work with her to support the DVS-IAM project. Your responses and participation help DVS understand current identity and access management practices and provide an opportunity to improve how we support you to maintain secure systems.
Thank you for your help with this important project! We will provide updates as the work continues. If you have questions, please email DVS Communications (dvs.communications@state.mn.us).
Some deputy registrars and driver's license agents that take credit card payments recently received an email asking them to complete a self-assessment in Security Studio.
It is a legitimate email and your office should complete the self-assessment as requested. MNIT uses Security Studio for vendor security questionnaires and the email you might have received is part of MNIT’s PCI compliance program assessment.
We apologize for any confusion or concern the email from Security Studio may have caused.
Extension of passport validity
On June 7, 2019, an extended decree by the Venezuelan National Assembly extended the validity of previously issued Venezuelan passports. Venezuelan passport holders will have the validity period of five years from the expiration date of their passport and have valid admission to the United States, as long as the traveler has a valid visa.
Driver's license
Venezuelan driver's license come in a paper format and it is ok if they are laminated.
DVS recently received some helpful information regarding official documents from Ecuador. Please note that these birth certificates (described below) ARE acceptable as a primary document even if they are not printed on security paper. The consulate has informed us that their citizens are able to obtain these documents in an electronic format that they are able to print themselves.
From the consulate:
The Ecuadorian Civil Registry provides online certificates with equal legal validity as those printed on official paper, issued by the Civil Registry in Ecuador or by the Consulates of Ecuador abroad.
Every document obtained through the online application has a bar code, a QR Code, a signature of the public authority issuing the document and, on top of that, an additional tool for the consideration of the authority accepting the document, which underscores that the document can also be subject to further validation by the authority accepting it, through accessing the Civil Registry Online Portal (https://virtual.registrocivil.gob.ec) and entering the certificate number.
Note: the example below would require a translation and certificate of translation form.
