Partial Pay – Driver Services

 

  • Legislative changes effective Aug. 1 make it possible for any individual to make partial payment of the $680 DWI reinstatement fee. Participants no longer need to be financially eligible for a public defender to qualify.

  • FAST is working on the necessary programming to allow the change in the system

  • Until then, starting Aug. 1, when a customer indicates they want to participate in the DWI reinstatement partial pay program:

    • Email dvs.partial-payment@state.mn.us and include the customer’s driver’s license number and full name and date of birth. State in your email that the customer is requesting to be added to the partial pay program for their $680 reinstatement fee.
    • The DPS-DVS Fines and Investigations Unit will monitor this inbox and will reply within five minutes that the customer has been added to the program and that the record has been updated for partial pay.
    • Once the customer is added to the program, you can accept the first installment of payment from them.

  • If the customer owes multiple $680 reinstatement fees, they must pay the first reinstatement fee in full and use the partial pay program on the second $680 fee owed. They are only allowed to do the partial pay on one $680 fee. 

  • If the customer has more than two DWI reinstatement fees, they would pay $680 in full on all but one remaining fee, then use the partial pay program for the final $680 fee. 

  • This program is only available on the DWI reinstatement fee.
