Update on BCA Investigation of Officer Involved Shooting in Olivia

ST. PAUL -- The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the man who died during an officer involved shooting incident on July 4 in the Renville County city of Olivia. The medical examiner said Ricardo Torres, Jr., 32, of Olivia, died of multiple gunshot wounds.

The name of the Olivia Police Department officer who discharged his firearm also has been released. Officer Aaron Clouse has been in law enforcement for 11 years. Officer Clouse remains on standard administrative leave.

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) is investigating the incident, which occurred at approximately 2:20 a.m. July 4 in the alley behind 821 East Lincoln Avenue in Olivia.

Torres was taken by ambulance to Olivia Hospital where he died. BCA crime scene personnel recovered a shotgun from near where Torres was shot.

Olivia Police Department does not use body cameras and there is no dash camera or other known video of the incident. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the BCA at 651-793-7000.

The BCA’s investigation is ongoing. Once the investigation is complete, the BCA will provide its findings without recommendation to the Renville County Attorney’s Office for review.
