After nearly three years of construction, the 11th Street underpass project in Moorhead is complete, and Center Avenue and 11th Street are expected to open to traffic by early evening on Thurs., Oct. 15!
Crews are finishing up the final striping on the project, doing other cleanup work, and their final walk throughs. While the road will reopen Thursday night, please continue to watch for workers still on-site in the upcoming weeks who may be taking care of miscellaneous items.
Last week, state and local officials joined community members for a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Oct. 7, to reflect and celebrate the project’s progress and Moorhead’s future. It was nice to take that pause and look at how far we've come since construction started in March 2024! Thank you, everyone, for the hard work and patience through every phase of this project.
Moorhead residents, commuters, businesses and community, thank you! On behalf of all of us at MnDOT and our partners, we are grateful for your support of this project, your continued interest and engagement in our updates, and your patience and commitment to safety during construction. This project's success is because of you. Thank you!
All construction activities, schedules and traffic impacts are weather dependent.

Construction of the 11th Street Grade Separation project started in March 2024 and was completed in phases. The project delivers two grade separations of 11th Street under the BNSF rail lines, as well as new pavement, improved sidewalks, drainage, utility replacements and signals. The project provides safety and mobility benefits by removing blockages caused by heavy rail traffic.
Ames Construction was awarded the project with a bid of $114.8 million for construction. The overall project cost approximately $171 million, funded primarily through state bonding, and combination of local funds and federal grant.

Looking ahead: Hwy 75/10 resurfacing in 2027
Next year, MnDOT will return to Moorhead to resurface Highway 75/Eighth Street from Main Avenue to 24th Avenue, and perform a slurry seal (preventative maintenance method) on Highway 10/Main Avenue from the Red River to 10th Street.
