D3 - Hwy 169 in Garrison: 2026 construction
The new single‑lane roundabout at Hwy 169, Hwy 18 and Monroe St. opened to travelers Friday evening, Sept. 25. Thanks again for your patience during the 17‑day closure—your support really helped keep things moving.
We hope to get some pictures to share soon.
Now through mid-October:
- Hwy 169 will stay detoured for through traffic while crews finish work south of the St. Alban’s Bay culvert to Co. Rd. 26.
- The north detour (Hwy 18/Hwy 6 to Bennettsville) will be lifted.
-
The south detour via Hwy 18, Co. Rd. 8 and Co. Rd. 26 will remain.
- Locals can still travel through the Hwy 169 work zone—just expect reduced speeds, no shoulders and lane closures with flaggers.
Crews are wrapping up project-wide work: striping, rumble/mumble strips, trail paving, sod/seeding, device removal and final paving on the south end.
Work also continues at the historic St. Alban’s Bay culvert as we wait for granite from the original Isle quarry. Shoulders will remain closed over the bridge during this phase.

Tips on navigating the new one-lane roundabout
- Slow down to about 15-25 mph as you enter.
- Yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk.
- Yield to cars already in the roundabout.
- Don’t pass large trucks—they need extra space.
- Keep moving counterclockwise; don’t stop or pull over in the circle.
- If an emergency vehicle is coming, exit the roundabout first, then pull over.
