Metro - Hwy 55 in Minneapolis and Mendota Heights: 2027 construction

The Hwy 55 Mendota Bridge railing project has been postponed to spring 2027. The railing-height improvement project was originally scheduled for 2026.
MnDOT will now enhance safety by installing seven-foot-tall prevention fencing on both sides of the bridge.
This change follows the passage of Kayla’s HOPE Act by the Minnesota Legislature. Under the new law, MnDOT will collaborate with the Minnesota Department of Health to develop safety guidelines and design standards for prevention fencing as part of bridge projects.

We are improving safety by adding seven-foot-tall prevention fencing on both sides of the Hwy 55 Mendota Bridge between Bloomington Rd. in Minneapolis and Hwy 52 in Mendota Heights, while still working to preserve the historic nature of the bridge.
Motorists can expect narrowed lanes, and pedestrians and bicyclists can expect a trail closure over the Mendota Bridge spring through late summer 2027.
