D1 - Hwy 61 & London Road: 2026-2027 construction
Current and upcoming work
- Work at 26th Ave E roundabout continues.
- Concrete pavement will start to be poured
- Storm sewer work is complete for the current traffic configuration
- Electric installation will occur this week and next
- Some overhead signage will be installed
- From 41st Ave E to 60th Ave E:
- Pavement removals are complete
- Concrete sidewalk and driveway work will begin this week
- Residents will be notified before driveway closures- notices have been given between 42nd Ave E and 47th Ave E
- Fresh concrete will be marked with caution tape. Please avoid walking or driving in taped off areas.
- Concrete pedestrian island work will start on Monday
- The contractor will begin construction of a temporary entrance to Ecumen Lakeshore this week; this temporary entrance is needed for the 2027 phase of construction. Coordination is occurring with Ecumen leadership
- Duluth Police Department will continue patrols near the school zones during drop off and pick up times
Traffic control

North of 40th Ave E, London Road is only open to northbound traffic. Southbound traffic is detoured on to Superior St to 40th Ave E.

The southbound truck detour has traffic continue on Superior St to 21st Ave E.

There is a hard closure of London Road just past the business accesses before 26th Ave E when heading north/east. There is also a hard closure of 26th Ave E just up the hill from London Road.

All north/east I-35 traffic is on a bypass to continue on London Road. There is no access to 26th Ave E from I-35 or London Road.
- Traffic impacts are expected through the fall.
