What's happening now?
Stage 2 of the project is underway. This stage includes reconstructing Highway 71 from Beltrami County Road (CR) 23 north to Beltrami CR 22. Stage 2 is expected to be complete by late August.
What's next?
Stage 3 of the project is expected to begin tomorrow, August 20, weather permitting. Stage 3 includes intersection improvements at Beltrami CR 23. Motorists can expect a closure at CR 21 (old Highway 71). Motorists on CR 21 can access Highway 71 at Island View Dr. There will also be lane closures at the intersection during this construction stage.
Once the road is up to grade, paving will begin. The project is expected to be complete in early October, weather permitting.
As a reminder, during these operations, residents and other local traffic should continue to watch for workers, slow-moving equipment and obey traffic control.
Motorists just passing through should utilize the detour.
All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather dependent.
