This week crews will continue grading operations between Timber Creek Trail and the north junction of Hillcrest Road in both northbound and southbound lanes. Work includes removing clay from the road, placing geotextile fabric, importing sand and placing gravel material. Work will be completed one lane at a time.
Local traffic should expect temporary delays.
Work planned for next week
Grading operations continue between Timber Creek Trail and the north junction of Hillcrest Road in both NB & SB lanes. Work begins on culvert repair work on the twin culverts on the Turtle River between Gull Lake Loop Road and Turtle River Lake Road. There will be minimal traffic impacts, shoulder closures will be up allowing equipment to access the pipes. Work consists of repairing the joints in both culverts.
Traffic and safety
Motorists will see increased law enforcement presence in the project area. Please reduce speeds, stay alert and use caution on the detour route. Slow‑moving equipment, including farm vehicles, may be present. Highway 71 remains closed between Beltrami County Roads 23 and 29. A detour is in place. Access to residences and businesses will be maintained; however, expect restrictions in areas where crews are working. Motorists without a destination on Highway 71 should follow the posted detour and use caution around workers and heavy equipment.
Project timeline
Construction is expected to be completed in October, weather permitting.
