Paving is done between Morris and Cyrus! Crews will be shouldering into next week and will install rumble strips starting next Wednesday, weather permitting. Final striping will begin the week of July 13. During these operations, residents and other local traffic should continue to watch for workers, slow-moving equipment and obey traffic control.
Work will take a pause this Friday through Sunday for the holiday weekend. The current work zones, closures and detours will remain in place, so please plan accordingly. A reminder to those heading to/from Cyrus, you cannot access Cyrus from the west. Continue to enter Cyrus from the south on County Road 3, turn left on Third Street and use Chippewa Street to cross Highway 28.
In Cyrus, underground utility replacements continue in Phase 2, and crews are getting the roadway in Phase 1 ready for concrete crews to be on-site mid-next week to start on curb and gutter.
On the east side, from Cyrus to Starbuck, paving and reclaiming are underway. Please obey flaggers and follow pilot cars.
All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather dependent.
Please support your local businesses! During the in-town work, if you're trying to access a business within the work areas, check in with them on the best way to get there. You may have to park on a side street and walk up, or use a back door. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding.
 Other local traffic safety reminders:
- This is an active work zone, even in areas where workers aren't present. Please slow down, and travel with extreme caution and care.
- Always obey flaggers and follow pilot car
- Be alert for changing conditions, such as uneven, rough and/or gravel surfaces
- Watch for workers, trucks hauling, and slow-moving heavy equipment
The highway is closed to thru-traffic. If you don't have a destination along the roadway, please follow the signed detour route. For access to Cyrus, follow the detour and from County Road 18 use County Road 3 to enter from the south.

Travel reminder: Know before you go
Have Fourth of July weekend travel plans? Check 511mn.org for statewide traffic impacts. The project on Highway 28 is just one of many road construction projects happening on Minnesota highways. Before you go, check the 511 map to see where you may encounter work zones, detours and more. Always slow down in work zones (even when workers aren't present) and never enter an area blocked by barriers or cones.
