Metro - I-35E and Shepard Road St. Paul to Lilydale: 2026-2027 construction
Starting at 5 a.m. Mon, June 29, the northbound I-35E ramp to eastbound Shepard Rd. will close through 10 p.m. Thu, July 2. Northbound I-35E traffic entering Shepard Rd. will be directed to eastbound Hwy 5/West 7th St., southbound Otto Ave. to eastbound Shepard Rd.
This closure is necessary for utility work on the bridge. MnDOT and Metropolitan Council Environmental Services (MCES) have consolidated work timelines during this closure to reduce future impacts. All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather and schedule dependent and subject to change.
Please contact the project team at info@35Eshepard.com or (612) 424-8032 if you have any questions.

Beginning this spring, we will replace the aging I-35E bridge over Shepard Rd. near downtown St. Paul. To complete this work, crews will build a temporary berm and roadway to carry traffic on I-35E over Shepard Rd. during construction. We will also complete concrete pavement reconstruction and repairs on the I-35E bridge over the Mississippi River. The project is anticipated to be complete in fall 2027.
For more information about the project, including upcoming traffic impacts, visit the project webpage. If you have questions, please contact the project team.
