Paving crews are about half-way between Morris and Cyrus with the first lift (layer) of new pavement! There are three lifts that will be paved. Crews will continue to move their operations east toward Cyrus. Once the first lift is done, then they'll hop back to the west end of the project near Morris to start on the second lift toward Cyrus, and then the third.
Local traffic should expect to encounter flaggers and pilot cars. Please be prepared to stop and expect minor delays.
When the section between Morris and Cyrus is complete, paving work will pause until about mid-July, which is when the paving crews expect to start on the section from Cyrus to Starbuck. This schedule is subject to change based on weather and progress in Cyrus.
Last centerline culvert replacement west of Starbuck
Starting as early as Monday, June 22, crews will return to the east side of the project near Starbuck to complete the final centerline culvert replacement just west of Starbuck. Residents can expect another hard closure between 300th Avenue and County Road 81/320th Avenue for about 2-3 days during the replacement. Please plan ahead for an alternate route next week.
Phases 1 and 2 underway in Cyrus
In-town in Cyrus, Phase 2 underground utility work continues. Both Phase 1 and Phase 2 are taking place concurrently to continue progress on the underground utility work. Local traffic/residents should continue to access Cyrus from County Road 3, turn left on Third Street and use Chippewa Street to cross Highway 28.
While the utility replacements are done in Phase 1, there are still a couple of individual services to hook up, which will occur next week. In addition, crews are working on reconstructing and grading the roadway in Phase 1 in preparation for concrete crews to arrive June 29, weather permitting, to start the curb, gutter and sidewalk in Phase 1.
Please support your local businesses! During the in-town work, if you're trying to access a business within the work areas, check in with them on the best way to get there. You may have to park on a side street and walk up, or use a back door. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding.
All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather dependent.
The highway is closed to thru-traffic. If you don't have a destination along the roadway, please follow the signed detour route. For access to Cyrus, follow the detour and from County Road 18 use County Road 3 to enter from the south.
