The City of Moorhead has a contractor on-board and they expect construction on Center Avenue, from 8th Street to 10th Street, to begin as early as this week! Go to the City of Moorhead's project website for more detailed information and to sign up for their communication updates.
For the city's project, Center Avenue will be closed east of 8th Street, as the work ties into the underpass project. The Center Avenue businesses remain open during construction, so please support them, and use the temporary accesses to get to them.
Things are really taking shape in Stage 3 on Center Avenue! While crews continue to finish up the underground utility work, they did reach a big milestone this month with the initial start up of the lift station! It even turned on for 72 seconds during one of the most recent rain events! The lift station is an important part of the city's storm sewer system. It helps to bring storm water up from the lowest parts of the roadway so it can effectively drain by gravity to the outfall at the Red River.
Once crews have completed the underground work, they'll begin grading the new roadway on Center Avenue and underneath the bridges on 11th Street. The current schedule shows concrete paving beginning in early to mid-July. Crews also remain focused on building and pouring the retaining walls.
You may see crews in other areas of the project, such as on First Avenue, Main Avenue and 11th Street, as they make any final repairs and finishing touches to the other stages of work.
As always, we appreciate your patience and understanding as the project progresses. We are still on schedule for completion this fall!

Join us at our monthly "Coffee & Construction" meeting on July 21 at 9 a.m., at the Hjemkomst Center. These meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month, through the duration of construction (or as interest/attendance remains steady).
At these meetings you can expect a short overview on progress from the contractor and MnDOT, and the opportunity for anyone to ask questions or share concerns. If you can't make it, that's OK—we continue to send out these email updates that will cover the same progress information!

Moorhead businesses are open during construction! If your destination falls within/near the work zone or along the detour routes, please check in with the business to determine the best route there.
-
Never enter an area that's blocked by barriers or cones. It is not safe to drive, walk or bike around barricades, even in areas where workers aren't present or active. Those boundaries are set up for your safety. There are signed detours installed for both motorists and pedestrians. Please use those routes.

There may be other projects in Moorhead that could affect your travel routes, like the upcoming reconstruction of Center Avenue between 10th Street and 8th Street. More to come from the City of Moorhead on that project's schedule and staging. Visit their website or follow the City of Moorhead on Facebook.
Please report any issues to the 11th Street Underpass hotline number at 218-292-8779.
