Let me know about new projects in central Minnesota
We want to let you know about an upcoming roadwork project in Wahkon, along south Mille Lacs Lakes. MnDOT will reconstruct and improve Hwy 27 (Main St.) from east of Chippewa Ave. to east of Fourth St. W
Motorists may encounter shoulder closures and flashing equipment along area roads as crews prepare for roadwork before the Fourth of July weekend. This could include utility companies, surveyors and soil testing.

Project highlights
- Reconstruct the road surface
- Install curb/gutter and add underground storm sewer
- Add or update sidewalks and pedestrian approaches
- Add bike lanes along both sides of road
- Landscape and install aesthetics to enhance the downtown boulevard
Detour Wahkon to Isle begins Mon, July 6
After the Fourth of July holiday weekend, crews will close Hwy 27 to through traffic between Summit Ave. and Sixth St. E until mid-October. A signed detour will use Mille Lacs Co. Rd. 17 in Wahkon to Isle.
Wahkon is open
Local access will stay open, but drivers should expect changes to access, areas of gravel or grooved pavement and sidewalk closures.

Landwehr Construction, Inc., is the prime contractor for this $2.7 million improvement project. When lanes reopen in late October, travelers will see a smoother roadway, updated drainage, enhanced downtown look and feel with city landscaping and aesthetics and improved safety and traffic flow in Wahkon.
