D3 - Hwy 169 in Garrison: 2026 construction
 Work zone changes Mon, June 15
Garrison residents and travelers will see new traffic changes as work moves into town and crews start rebuilding Hwy 169.
Starting today, June 10, the new smoother lanes north of Hwy 18 and the temporary roundabout at Hwy 18/Hwy 169 will open for city access. As crews begin reconstruction along west Mille Lacs Lake, the Hwy 169 detour will shift south to Crow Wing Co. Rd. 26.

Expect single‑lane traffic with no shoulders, lane shifts, reduced speeds, flaggers, and gravel or grooved surfaces. Access and entrances will change—follow road signs
- To minimize delays, enter the detour from the north or south end closest to your destination, or use Highway 18 to reach businesses, services and recreation in Garrison
- Pike Point Public Water access is open south of Garrison
 Temporary roundabout opens today, June 10. Travelers should yield into the circle and go slow. The center island is slightly raised and larger/longer vehicles can drive over to make the turn safely—semi-trailer trucks, boats, campers, etc.
Work during this stage
- Rebuild Hwy 169 through Garrison, including entrances, curb/gutter, storm sewer and pedestrian facilities
- Construct the new single‑lane roundabout at Hwy 169/Hwy 18/Monroe St.
- Repair the St. Alban’s Bay historic culvert bridge (half at a time)
- Continue to update the road between Garrison and Co. Rd. 26

What’s next
After Labor Day weekend, the intersection will close to all traffic at Hwy 169, Monroe St. and Hwy 18 to construct the roundabout connections and remove the temporary roundabout. Work will also continue south of Garrison to Co. Rd. 26.
When all lanes reopen in mid‑October, travelers will experience a smoother road, updated infrastructure and improved safety and traffic flow in the Garrison area.
