D3 - Hwy 169 in Garrison: 2026 construction
 Detour begins Mon, May 11
After the fishing opener, MnDOT will close Hwy 169 between Hwy 18 and Pike Ave. in north Garrison through mid-June.
You'll follow a signed detour between Garrison and Bennettville (map below) along Hwy 18, Hwy 6 and Tame Fish Lake Rd. (Co. Rd. 14/11).
Local access will remain open in the closed area. However, you should expect changing entrances, flaggers directing stop-and-go traffic, and gravel or grooved surfaces. Plan for delays and use the detour to enter nearest your destination at Hwy 18 or Pike Ave.

You can also expect periodic lane or shoulder closures with reduced speeds south of Garrison. Check 511mn.org for current Hwy 169 and Hwy 18 conditions.
During this closure, crews will:
- Resurface (mill and pave asphalt) north of Hwy 18 to Pike Ave.
- Prepare work areas for later construction in Garrison, including a temporary roundabout for city access and work along the shoulder or median south of Garrison

This closure marks the start of a six‑month, $12.4 million project to improve five miles of Hwy 169 from Crow Wing Co. Rd. 26 to Pike Ave. The project will resurface the highway and construct a new roundabout at Hwy 18 in Garrison.
When lanes reopen in mid‑October, travelers will see a smoother road surface, updated infrastructure, and improved safety and traffic flow in the Garrison area.
