Heads up, Moorhead! During the week of May 4, lasting for about a week, there will be an additional closure on 11th Street between First Avenue North and Second Avenue North. Crews will be completing some sidewalk work in that block just north of First Avenue. Please follow the signed detour.
Once they finish there, the crews will begin doing some finishing touches along First Avenue North, too! Motorists can expect to encounter a lane closure on First Avenue North during that time.
Progress has continued this spring on the project's excavations and retaining walls in Stage 3 on Center Avenue and 11th Street. That work remains the primary focus, as crews construct, pour and wait for curing on the retaining walls. They'll soon begin the final connection of the underground utilities as well, and then will start grading the new roadway underneath the underpass bridges on 11th Street and rebuilding Center Avenue.
As always, we appreciate your patience and understanding as the project progresses. We are still on schedule for completion in Fall 2026!
Crews continue work underneath the new railroad bridges on 11th Street

We'll resume our monthly "Coffee & Construction" meetings starting May 19 at 9 a.m., at the Hjemkomst Center. These meetings will be held the third Tuesday of each month, through the duration of construction (or as interest/attendance remains steady).
At these meetings you can expect a short overview on progress from the contractor and MnDOT, and the opportunity for anyone to ask questions or share concerns. If you can't make it, that's OK—we will continue to send out these email updates that will cover the same progress information!
-
Train horns have resumed in the Downtown Quiet Zone during construction hours (Monday - Friday, 6am - 7pm). This is a requirement of the railroad, and we appreciate your understanding as worker safety is prioritized.
-
Moorhead businesses are open during construction! If your destination falls within/near the work zone or along the detour routes, please check in with the business to determine the best route there.
-
Never enter an area that's blocked by barriers or cones. It is not safe to drive, walk or bike around barricades, even in areas where workers aren't present or active. Those boundaries are set up for your safety. There are signed detours installed for both motorists and pedestrians. Please use those routes.

There may be other projects in Moorhead that could affect your travel routes, like the upcoming reconstruction of Center Avenue between 10th Street and 8th Street. More to come from the City of Moorhead on that project's schedule and staging. Visit their website or follow the City of Moorhead on Facebook.
Please report any issues to the 11th Street Underpass hotline number at 218-292-8779.
