D3 - Hwy 25 Buffalo to Monticello: 2026 construction
After several years of planning, MnDOT will begin a one‑year roadwork project on Hwy 25 between Catlin St. in Buffalo and Kjellberg Ct. in south Monticello on Monday, April 13.
Hwy 25 will be closed to through traffic for the full duration of the project. Travelers should plan for delays, changes to access, and a signed detour. During the first week, crews will set up the work zone and the detour route. Expect occasional lane or shoulder closures.
Hwy 25 detour between Cameron Ave. NE south of Monticello and Hwy 55 in Buffalo
Road closes and detour begins Tue, April 21
Hwy 25 will close to through traffic between Cameron Ave. NE (Co. Rd. 131) and John Ause Memorial Dr. in Buffalo through early July.
Traffic will be routed along a signed detour using Cameron Ave. NE (Co. Rd. 131), Co. Rd. 37 NE, Co. Rd. 12, and Hwy 55 in Buffalo.
Local access will remain open for those who live, work, or visit destinations within the work zone. However, temporary hard closures will be needed at times as crews work beneath the roadway. Enter and exit as close to your destination as possible and follow posted signs. Alternate entrances or side streets may be required.
Roundabout construction schedule (tentative)
-
April 21 – early June: Hwy 25 and Co. Rd. 37
-
Early May – early July: Hwy 25 and Catlin St.
-
After July 1: Hwy 25 and Co. Rd. 113
Looking ahead to mid-summer
Around early July, the detour will adjust as crews begin rebuilding and recycling the road surface using Stabilized Full Depth Reclamation (SFDR). This method requires deep excavation and large equipment. Even though crews work one lane at a time, Hwy 25 must remain closed to through traffic.
More about this project
This $11.4 million project will reconstruct the road surface between Catlin St. and north of Davidson Ave., repair or replace drainage, and add new shoulders and turn lanes. It also includes access improvements at several locations along Hwy 25, including Kjellberg Ct., Co. Rd. 131, 55th St. NE, Westridge Ct., Co. Rd. 41, 3rd Ave., and Anderson Ave.
Crews will build new roundabouts at Hwy 25 and Co. Rd. 37 and at Catlin St., while Wright County constructs the roundabout at Co. Rd. 113 later in 2026. Pedestrian improvements, including new trail connections and safer crossings at each roundabout, will also be added.
