Work zone safety training
 2026 Work Zone Safety Training
Traffic Control Supervisor – In-person training only
We'll provide three Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS) classes at MnDOT’s Shoreview training center. The two-day certification course is designed for traffic control supervisors who will work on Minnesota state projects. Upon completion of the course and successfully passing the TCS exam, you'll fulfill the language contained in MnDOT's Traffic Control Supervisor Special Provision 2563.
We strongly recommend attendees have a minimum of two years traffic control experience before registering for this class.
Other options to obtain Traffic Control Supervisor certification
American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) provides multiple Minnesota-specific Traffic Control Technician and Supervisor virtual and in-person classes. You must complete both the Minnesota-specific Technician and Supervisor classes as well as obtain ATSSA’s certification to fulfill the language contained in MnDOT’s traffic control special provision.
MnDOT Traffic Control Supervisor Recertification
In-person classroom is not available
We'll provide three e-learning Traffic Control Supervisor Recertification courses. Lake Superior College will accept registrations for this course. Recertification is only available during the week you are registered. American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) recertifications are completed through ATSSA.
Traffic Control Overview
Virtual only – zero cost – Microsoft Teams
This one-day course is an introduction to MnDOT’s Traffic Control Supervisor training. This is not a certification course and does not fulfill MnDOT’s traffic control supervisor language contained in the traffic control special provision. The course is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesday, April 1, 2026.
Flagger Train the Trainer
In-person training only
We'll provide four Flagger Train the Trainer classes at MnDOT’s Shoreview Training Center. This is not a flagging class, but a course used to qualify contractor's personnel to train their employees to act as flaggers on MnDOT construction projects. We recommend supervisors, lead workers, or individuals capable to deliver training attend. We do not provide a virtual training option.
