Z ARCHIVE D3 - Hwy 55 in Annandale: 2025 construction
After six months of construction, we're excited to share that the detour will be removed and Hwy 55 will reopen to all travelers on Fri, Oct. 17! This will mark the completion of this $11.5 million project to reconstruct and improve Hwy 55 from Brown Ave. to Annandale Blvd.
We hope you enjoy the smoother road surface, widened shoulders, upgraded underground utilities and safer access throughout the corridor.
Key improvements:
- Wider shoulders and a center turn lane to improve traffic flow and safety
- Rebuilt corridor from Brown Ave. to Poplar Ave., including updated water, sewer and stormwater systems
- Upgraded Hwy 24 intersections with a new signal at Excelsior Ave., a flashing pedestrian crosswalk at Hwy 24/Harrison St., and a realigned connection to Poplar Ave. with a side road cul-de-sac
- New sidewalks on both sides of Hwy 55 from Brown Ave. to Cherry St. that continues on the north side of Poplar Ave. and connects to Service Rd.
The segment east of Poplar Ave. was completed a couple weeks early. The road is now wider and there's a center left-turn lane between Poplar Ave. and Annandale Blvd.
The new, upgraded signal system at Hwy 55 and Excelsior Ave. is up and running.
New flashing crosswalks at Hwy 24/Harrison St. improves safety for pedestrians.
Crews replaced the underground utilities between Brown Ave. and Poplar Ave., including water, sewer and stormwater systems.
We know roadwork and detours can be frustrating, and we truly appreciate everyone who adjusted their routines and stayed patient through the disruptions.
