Week 18 progress
With paving crews scheduled to be back in Pelican Rapids next week, weather permitting, concrete crews are getting curb, gutter and sidewalks poured in Stage 2C on Highway 59 and Stage 4A-C on Highway 108 east.
On Highway 59 next week, once crews pave the current work area between 7th Avenue and County Road 9, the entire operation will move north and crews will begin the road realignment at County Road 9. Work will start on the east side of the road, with the automated signal directing traffic one-way at a time through the work zone.
Upcoming closure at County Road 9: When work on the road realignment at County Road 9 starts late next week, you will NOT be able to access County Road 9 directly from Highway 59. The intersection will close to all traffic. Drivers should use the official detour on Highway 34 to enter from the north, or find an alternate route to and from County Road 9. Business access will be maintained for the businesses near/at the intersection, but no thru-traffic will be permitted. You will be turned around.
On Highway 108 east, in Stages 4A-C, sidewalks are going in, with paving scheduled to start late next week too. Crews will pave between 2 1/2 Street and 4th Street, as well as the intersection of Anne Lane. Then, depending on the concrete progress (rain, rain, go away!!), they may have to come back to pave between 4th Street up to Anne Lane.
On Highway 108 west, in Stages 3A-B, utility replacements continue. Watermain is installed up to 2nd Street NW, with sanitary sewer replacements now underway. Next week, crews will reclaim the section from 2nd Street up to 3rd Street NW so the underground work can continue west.
Heads up for those who live/travel from Highway 108 west: We are about 2-3 weeks away from the closure at the 3rd Street NW intersection (the current detour route for Stages 3A and 3B). Please plan ahead and consider your alternate route to/from town for when that short-term closure occurs.
