2026 Greater MN Local HSIP Solicitation open – $30.5 million available The 2026 Federal Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) solicitation for Greater Minnesota (non-metro areas) is now open. City and county transportation agencies are invited to apply for funding to support roadway safety improvement projects. Read more on the 2026 Greater MN local HSIP Solicitation.

New traffic control device approved for residential driveways The FHWA has issued an interim approval for the Residential Driveway Temporary Signal (RDTS), with Minnesota receiving a statewide interim approval. The RDTS is designed to improve safety and efficiency on two-lane, two-way roads by controlling traffic entering from residential driveways during construction or maintenance activities that result in the closure of one lane.  Read more on Residential Driveway Temporary Signals.

Geotextiles and geosynthetic guidance Historically, Geotextile Fabric Type 5 has been the first option for many city and county projects encountering base stability issues, both in project design and when base problems are encountered in the field. As products change and research advances, we want to make you aware of the latest recommendations from the MnDOT Grading and Base and MnDOT Foundations Unit, who study and write up the MnDOT specifications for these items. 2025 MN ICE Manual and TEM Intersections Chapter 4 MnDOT is excited to announce the publication of the Intersection Control Evaluation (ICE) Manual and Chapter 4, Intersections, of the Traffic Engineering Manual (TEM). Read more on the ICE and TEM Manuals.
