D6 - I-90 and Hwy 52 interchange: 2024-2026 construction
Detour scheduled 5 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Southbound Highway 52 access to eastbound Interstate 90 southeast of Rochester will be closed and detoured on July 31 as construction crews pour the eastbound I-90 concrete bridge deck.
Weather forecasts prompted the construction team to postpone the work by one day.
Work was originally scheduled for July 30 but is being postponed for one day because of potential rainy weather. On Thursday, work is expected to keep southbound Highway 52 closed at the bridge from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. with the eastbound I-90 ramp closed and detoured. If work is postponed by weather, crews will attempt the work on the following day.
One-day detour
Southbound Highway 52 motorists will be detoured in Rochester to Highway 63 south to I-90 east at Stewartville. Traffic with destinations further south on Highway 52 will exit eastbound I-90 at Exit 224 (Eyota exit), travel south on Olmsted County Road 7 to Highway 52 north of Chatfield.
Similar, short duration detours are planned when crews remove equipment and paint the bridge. Detours will be announced in advance.
Other detours of ramps and lane closures remain in effect.
Remaining open are:
- Northbound Highway 52 to allow westbound I-90 motorists to exit north on Highway 52 toward Rochester.
- I-90 remains open in both directions.
- Southbound Highway 52 motorists can use the westbound I-90 on-ramp. The next exits west are Exits 209A and 209B at Stewartville. There are no public turnarounds between Highway 52 and Highway 63.
