It was a rainy week in Pelican Rapids! It's good to see the sun again today, but last night's rain has caused some delays at the Anne Lane intersection on Highway 108 east. Due to the wet conditions, crews will not be able to get the intersection reopened and passable for the weekend. Please continue to use Cross Point Road, the out-of-town detour route.
We apologize for the extended inconvenience—your patience and understanding are appreciated. The contractor is working as quickly as possible to get the Anne Lane intersection back open.
If you need to access a residence or side road between Cross Point Road and Anne Lane, you can get there. But all thru-traffic will not be permitted beyond Anne Lane, you will have to turn around and follow the official detour or find an alternate route into town from Highway 108 east.
Week 12 progress
Despite all the rain this week, crews kept working as much as they could. The most noticeable progress is the work in Stage 2B on Highway 59 is done! The work zone has shifted north to Stage 2C, starting near 7th Avenue NE to just beyond County Road 9. Crews are starting their removals on the east side of the road first, and the automated signal is set up on the west side for traffic to take turns.
|
Your cooperation at the automated signal is important. Expect to stop and wait until the light turns green before proceeding. Please obey the signal lights. If you are entering from the middle of the work zone, please wait and proceed with the correct direction of traffic. Your patience is important!
Over on the east side of town, in Stages 4A and 4B on Highway 108 east, conditions are wet and muddy. Crews continue working on getting the roadway back together again. Please continue to use 2 1/2 Street to cross and access businesses on the north side of the highway.
A reminder that as work continues through the entire Stage 4 area into the next couple of weeks, access to the businesses on the north side of the road may have to flip flop between 2 1/2 Street to Fourth Street at various times if crews are working in the intersections. If one is closed, go to the other. Thanks for understanding!
In Stage 4C, from 6th Street to Anne Lane, crews continue their work in the Anne Lane intersection. The rain has delayed the reopening of the intersection, but they'll be working hard to finish up, dry things out and get it back open. We are anticipating the need for a hard closure at the intersection again next week to get the storm sewer installed, and we'll send out another email update when that date is known.
Please drive slowly and with extreme caution at all times if traveling in or near the work zone. This is an active area and it is important for you to watch for uneven ground, equipment and workers. Safety is everyone's job!

-
Businesses remain open during road construction: Access will be maintained to both businesses and residences, but entrances may change or shift as utility replacements and concrete work are underway. How you enter or exit may vary depending on where crews are working, and you may need to park and walk up to some locations. Please check in with your destination to determine the best way to get to them.
-
Thru-traffic and trucks: For those who don’t have a destination in Pelican Rapids, the signed thru-traffic/truck routes outside of town are still an option. Expect delays in Pelican Rapids during peak travel times.
Signing up for this project email list is just one way to stay informed during construction. There are several different ways you can find information or get your questions answered:
All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather dependent and subject to change. MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution, slow down in work zones where workers are present, and never enter an area that's blocked by barriers or cones.
