Local traffic impacts this week into next week: Restrictions and impassable areas between Holmes City Triangle/County Road 4 and West Lake Mary Drive/County Road 91.
Crews are wrapping up on Pipe 8 today, and will be moving their operations north of the Holmes City triangle/County Road 4 (north of the entrance to Big Foot Resort) to start on Pipe 9. The site is wet from a rainy start to the week, and they expect to be working at this location through Friday/Saturday, weather permitting.
Once they finish at Pipe 9, they will move to Pipe 10 on the north end of this section, near West Lake Mary Drive.
Local traffic should expect hard closures while crews are working at each site, including overnights and possibly on Sunday when workers are not present. Residents and local traffic will need to find an alternate route around—you may have to come from the opposite direction you're used to taking, depending on your location and path of travel.
Upcoming roundabout construction
With three centerline culvert replacements to go, we're also starting to look ahead to the roundabout construction at the intersection of Highway 114 and Highway 27. That work will begin when the culvert replacements are done in early August. At that time, Highway 27 will remain passable for east/west traffic, but you will NOT be able to access Highway 114 north or south from the Highway 27 intersection. Please plan ahead and consider your alternate route.
 Completed work
- Replace entrance pipes throughout the entire project
- Replace Pipe 1 - 7, Pipe 12 and Pipe 13
- Finish ditch cleaning
Upcoming schedule
- Continue to shape/pave entrances and completed culvert sites
- Finish at Pipe 8
- Replace Pipe 9
- Clean and line existing pipes throughout the entire project
- Begin construction of the roundabout at Highway 114 and Highway 27 intersection
Local traffic should always slow down—please remember you are in an active work zone, even in areas where workers aren't present. Some of the culvert sites throughout the entire project area are currently loose gravel, so please drive slowly while approaching each one. Please stay alert for heavy equipment and trucks hauling throughout the entire corridor.
All thru-traffic should stick to the detour route on I-94, Highway 29 and Highway 55.
Thank you for staying committed to safety for all!
We have two years of projects scheduled on Highway 114. This year's project includes culvert replacements between Highway 55 and I-94, and roundabout construction at the intersection of Highway 27 and Highway 114. Next year, we'll come back to resurface the entire roadway.
Check the project website for project information, construction updates, and MnDOT contacts. We're here to help!
All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather dependent and subject to change. MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution, slow down in work zones where workers are present, and never enter an area that's blocked by barriers or cones.
