Local traffic impacts starting Monday: Restrictions and impassable areas between County Road 4 and Highway 55.
Work is paused for the holiday weekend, but we wanted to share updates on what's to come starting Monday, July 7, on Highway 114. Crews were able to finish up on Pipe 4 today, and that area is now passable for residents and local traffic.
With rain in the forecast this weekend, the crew will determine on Monday whether they will start on Pipe 3 or move on to Pipe 5. The "Pipe 3" culvert is a deeper structure, so they are monitoring the water levels before starting at that site. If we get a lot of rain and water levels rise, they may instead start on Pipe 5, which is located between County Road 4 and County Road 26, near Pocket Lake (see map below). Pipe 3 is located just south of County Road 26. As a reminder, at whichever location they start, the road will be impassable for 1-3 days at that site. Please find an alternate route around it—you may have to come from the opposite direction you're used to taking, depending on your location and path of travel.
On the north end of the project, paving crews will be back on Monday to finish paving at the Pipe 12 and Pipe 13 sites. Over the weekend, local traffic will encounter a bump at each location, as the sites await the last lift, or layer, of pavement. Please travel with caution. Once they are done on the north side, the paving crews will jump back down to the south end to pave the Pipe 1 and Pipe 2 sites.
If you have a destination on Highway 114, you can still get there. All thru-traffic should stick to the detour route on I-94, Highway 29 and Highway 55.
Completed work
- Replace entrance pipes throughout the entire project
- Replace Pipe 12 and 13 north of Highway 27
- Ditch cleaning
- Replace Pipe 1, Pipe 2 and Pipe 4
Upcoming schedule
- Replace Pipe 3 or Pipe 5 - Starts Monday, depends on weather and water levels!
- Shape and pave entrances and completed culvert sites
- Clean and line existing pipes throughout the entire project
Local traffic should always slow down—please remember you are in an active work zone, even in areas where workers aren't present. The culvert sites throughout the entire project area are currently loose gravel, so please drive slowly while approaching each one.
Please stay alert for heavy equipment and trucks hauling throughout the entire corridor.
Thank you for staying committed to safety for all!
We have two years of projects scheduled on Highway 114. This year's project includes culvert replacements between Highway 55 and I-94, and roundabout construction at the intersection of Highway 27 and Highway 114. Next year, we'll come back to resurface the entire roadway.
Check the project website for project information, construction updates, and MnDOT contacts. We're here to help!
All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather dependent and subject to change. MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution, slow down in work zones where workers are present, and never enter an area that's blocked by barriers or cones.

Travel reminder: Know before you go
Have Fourth of July travel plans? Check 511mn.org for statewide traffic impacts. The Highway 114 project is just one of many road construction projects happening across Minnesota. Before you go, check the 511 map to see where you may encounter work zones, detours and more. Always slow down in work zones (even when workers aren't present) and never enter an area blocked by barriers or cones.
