2024-2025 Construction: Hwy 59, Hwy 108 Pelican Rapids
|
|
Work on the Pelican Rapids complete streets project will pause for the holiday weekend. Crews wrap up for the week today, and will be back to it on Monday, July 7!
We wish everyone a fun and safe Fourth of July!
Week 9 progress
On the west side of Stage 2B on Highway 59, most of the underground utility replacements are completed, with a few things to finish up and to begin final tie ins. By later next week, they're hoping to have the concrete crews back to start pouring curb and gutter!
There is extra traffic moving through town this weekend, so your continued cooperation at the automated signal is important. Expect to stop and wait until the light turns green before proceeding. Depending on traffic volumes, you may have to sit through one to two cycles of the signal lights. Please obey the signal lights. Traffic flows one direction at a time. If entering in the middle of the work zone (such as Fifth Avenue NE), please stop and wait to ensure you're following the correct direction of traffic.
Thank you for your patience and commitment to safety.

Over on the east side of town, in Stages 4A and 4B on Highway 108 east, underground replacements remain underway. They continue to progress utility-by-utility through the Sixth Street intersection, and will continue toward Anne Lane. Please follow the in-town detour route around the work zone.
Highway 108 east business access: Those seeking to access the businesses on the north side of the road, please use 2 1/2 Street to cut across the work zone. You can enter from Highway 108 east or from First Avenue. A temporary passage has been built behind the new pool to connect access from the church's parking lot to the nursing home/clinic lots.
Please drive slowly and with extreme caution at all times if traveling in or near the work zone. This is an active area and it is important for you to watch for uneven ground, equipment and workers. Safety is everyone's job!

Important reminders
-
Weekly construction updates: Join us at the Pelican Rapids Public Library each Thursday at noon for in-person construction updates. Business liaison Brent Frazier, and representatives from MnDOT and Landwehr Construction will be there to share updates and answer questions.
-
Businesses remain open during road construction: Access will be maintained to both businesses and residences, but entrances may change or shift as utility replacements and concrete work are underway. How you enter or exit may vary depending on where crews are working, and you may need to park and walk up to some locations. Please check in with your destination to determine the best way to get to them.
-
Thru-traffic and trucks: For those who don’t have a destination in Pelican Rapids, the signed thru-traffic/truck routes outside of town are still an option. Expect delays in Pelican Rapids during peak travel times.
Signing up for this project email list is just one way to stay informed during construction. There are several different ways you can find information or get your questions answered:
All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather dependent and subject to change. MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution, slow down in work zones where workers are present, and never enter an area that's blocked by barriers or cones.

Travel reminder: Know before you go
Have Fourth of July travel plans? Check 511mn.org for statewide traffic impacts. The project in Pelican Rapids is just one of many road construction projects happening across Minnesota. Before you go, check the 511 map to see where you may encounter work zones, detours and more. Always slow down in work zones (even when workers aren't present) and never enter an area blocked by barriers or cones.
