On Tuesday, we made the big switch and swapped traffic to the east side of the road on Highway 59 in Stage 2B!
Your continued cooperation at the automated signal is important! Expect to stop at the automated signal, and wait until the light turns green before proceeding. Traffic flows one direction at a time. If entering in the middle of the work zone (such as Fifth Avenue NE), please stop and wait to ensure you're following the correct direction of traffic. Even during off-hours, when crews aren't present and traffic volumes are low, please obey the signal lights.
Week 8 progress
On the west side of Stage 2B, crews finish up removals and have started on the underground work. We do expect this side to go a bit faster, as most of the utility work is tying into the infrastructure that was placed on the east side.
While paving crews were on site, they have also been paving entrances that are ready, as well as finished the temporary widening on Highway 108 west in Stages 3A-C. That work is in preparation for the Stage 3-C work that will tentatively start sometime in August.

Over on the east side of town, in Stages 4A and 4B on Highway 108 east, crews continue underground replacements. Crews have to continue to work in the 6th Street intersection, as they continue to progress utility-by-utility through Stage 4A and 4B, and the road closure and detour has extended to Anne Lane.
Highway 108 east business access: Those seeking to access the businesses on the north side of the road, please use 2 1/2 Street to cut across the work zone. You can enter from Highway 108 east or from First Avenue. A temporary passage has been built behind the new pool to connect access from the church's parking lot to the nursing home/clinic lots.
Please drive slowly and with extreme caution at all times if traveling near the work zone. This is an active area and it is important for you to watch for equipment and workers. Safety is everyone's job!

Important reminders
-
Weekly construction updates: Join us at the Pelican Rapids Public Library each Thursday at noon for in-person construction updates. Business liaison Brent Frazier, and representatives from MnDOT and Landwehr Construction will be there to share updates and answer questions.
-
Businesses remain open during road construction: Access will be maintained to both businesses and residences, but entrances may change or shift as utility replacements and concrete work are underway. How you enter or exit may vary depending on where crews are working, and you may need to park and walk up to some locations. Please check in with your destination to determine the best way to get to them.
-
Thru-traffic and trucks: For those who don’t have a destination in Pelican Rapids, the signed thru-traffic/truck routes outside of town are still an option. Expect delays in Pelican Rapids during peak travel times.
Signing up for this project email list is just one way to stay informed during construction. There are several different ways you can find information or get your questions answered:
All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather dependent and subject to change. MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution, slow down in work zones where workers are present, and never enter an area that's blocked by barriers or cones.
