Weather has caused some hiccups in the plans for this week's work, but progress is still happening in Pelican Rapids. Sidewalks are in on Highway 59, in Stage 2B of the project area. Crews are doing the final grading, and on Monday, weather permitting, paving crews will arrive on-site to start paving the east side of the road. Once paved, traffic will be switched so work on the west side can begin.
While paving crews are here, you'll also see them jump over to Highway 108 west. Crews have finished shoulder widening and driveway work, and they're ready for paving! This is part of the preparations for the road construction to start in Stages 3A-C on Highway 108 west, which is still tentatively expected to start sometime in August.
As a reminder, your patience is important. Motorists should expect to stop at the automated signal, and wait until the light turns green before proceeding. Traffic flows one direction at a time, so if entering in the middle of the work zone, please follow the correct direction of traffic. Even during off-hours, when crews aren't present and traffic volumes are low, please obey the signal lights.

In Stages 4A and 4B on Highway 108 east, crews didn't quite get to the 6th Street intersection as they originally had planned for this week. They continue to work on storm sewer and watermain replacements between 4th and 5th Streets. Once they do move into the 6th Street intersection, the road closure and detour will extend to Anne Lane (see map).
Highway 108 east business access: Those seeking to access the businesses on the north side of the road, please use 2 1/2 Street to cut across the work zone. You can enter from Highway 108 east or from First Avenue. A temporary passage has been built behind the new pool to connect access from the church's parking lot to the nursing home/clinic lots.
Please drive slowly and with extreme caution at all times if traveling near the work zone. This is an active area and it is important for you to watch for equipment and workers. Safety is everyone's job!

Important reminders
-
Weekly construction updates: Join us at the Pelican Rapids Public Library each Thursday at noon for in-person construction updates. Business liaison Brent Frazier, and representatives from MnDOT and Landwehr Construction will be there to share updates and answer questions.
-
Businesses remain open during road construction: Access will be maintained to both businesses and residences, but entrances may change or shift as utility replacements and concrete work are underway. How you enter or exit may vary depending on where crews are working, and you may need to park and walk up to some locations. Please check in with your destination to determine the best way to get to them.
-
Thru-traffic and trucks: For those who don’t have a destination in Pelican Rapids, the signed thru-traffic/truck routes outside of town are still be an option. Expect delays in Pelican Rapids during peak travel times.
Signing up for this project email list is just one way to stay informed during construction. There are several different ways you can find information or get your questions answered:
All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather dependent and subject to change. MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution, slow down in work zones where workers are present, and never enter an area that's blocked by barriers or cones.
