Next week, starting Monday or Tuesday, weather permitting, the closure and detour on Highway 108 east will extend to Anne Lane. See the map below for the in-town detour route using Anne Lane, 8th Street SE, 1st Avenue SE, 6th Street SE and 2nd Avenue SE.
The extended closure and detour will allow crews to work in the Highway 108 east and 6th Street SE intersection to replace and tie in the underground infrastructure.
In Stages 4A and 4B on Highway 108 east, crews continue work on underground utility replacements, with the operations moving east into the 6th Street intersection.
Highway 108 east business access: Those seeking to access the businesses on the north side of the road, please use 2 1/2 Street to cut across the work zone. You can enter from Highway 108 east or from First Avenue. A temporary passage has been built behind the new pool to connect access from the church's parking lot to the nursing home/clinic lots.
Please drive slowly and with extreme caution at all times if traveling near the work zone. This is an active area and it is important for you to watch for equipment and workers. Safety is everyone's job!

Curb is going in on Highway 59, with sidewalks to follow next week! Concrete work will continue as weather allows. And that includes the replacement of the downtown boulevards. Concrete crews will pour that when the weather is favorable. A reminder that there may be parking or other restrictions while crews are working and concrete cures. Please stay alert and DO NOT walk around barriers, ribbons or cones. Your cooperation is important.
Next week, too, if all goes as planned, paving crews will be here mid-week to pave the east side of Highway 59. Once that is done, traffic will be switched and they will get started on the west side of Stage 2B on Highway 59.
As a reminder, your patience is important. Motorists should expect to stop at the automated signal, and wait until the light turns green before proceeding. Traffic flows one direction at a time, so if entering in the middle of the work zone, please follow the correct direction of traffic. Even during off-hours, when crews aren't present and traffic volumes are low, please obey the signal lights.

Important reminders
-
Weekly construction updates: Join us at the Pelican Rapids Public Library each Thursday at noon for in-person construction updates. Business liaison Brent Frazier, and representatives from MnDOT and Landwehr Construction will be there to share updates and answer questions. Please note: there will be no meeting on Thursday, June 19, as the Library is closed in observation of Juneteenth.
-
Businesses remain open during road construction: Access will be maintained to both businesses and residences, but entrances may change or shift as utility replacements and concrete work are underway. How you enter or exit may vary depending on where crews are working, and you may need to park and walk up to some locations. Please check in with your destination to determine the best way to get to them.
-
Thru-traffic and trucks: For those who don’t have a destination in Pelican Rapids, the signed thru-traffic/truck routes outside of town are still be an option. Expect delays in Pelican Rapids during peak travel times.
Signing up for this project email list is just one way to stay informed during construction. There are several different ways you can find information or get your questions answered:
All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather dependent and subject to change. MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution, slow down in work zones where workers are present, and never enter an area that's blocked by barriers or cones.
