Crews continue progress on underground utility replacements on Highway 59, and will be getting started on the underground work on Highway 108 east. Starting today, Friday, May 30, lasting for a few weeks, the Highway 108 east work zone will close at 2 1/2 Street. Those seeking to access the businesses on the north side of the road, please use 4th Street to cut across the work zone. A temporary passage has been built behind the new pool to connect access from the church's parking lot to the nursing home/clinic lots.
2025 Week 4 construction progress
In Stages 4A and 4B on Highway 108 east, crews have been prepping for underground utility work. Starting today, May 30, they will close 2 1/2 Street so they can get the site ready for excavations to begin Monday, June 2. As with the other utility replacements, that work will be ongoing for several weeks, as crews work east on sanitary sewer, watermain, services and storm sewer.
If you are traveling in or near the work zone, using 4th Street to cut across the work zone, or trying to access a residence on a side street, please drive slowly and with extreme caution at all times. This is an active work zone and it is important for you to watch for equipment and workers. Safety is everyone's job!

On the east side of Highway 59, in Stage 2B, underground utility replacements remain underway as well, and they are finishing up water main, hooking up services and installing storm sewer. In the next couple of weeks, you'll start to see the roadway come back together as they finish underground work and start to reshape the road for curb and gutter, sidewalks and finally paving.
As a reminder, your patience is important. Motorists should expect to stop at the automated signal, and wait until the light turns green before proceeding. Traffic flows one direction at a time, so if entering in the middle of the work zone, please follow the correct direction of traffic. Even during off-hours, when crews aren't present and traffic volumes are low, please obey the signal lights.
On Highway 108 west, shoulder work continues. Please watch for workers as they finish grading and other earthwork along the roadside.

Important reminders
-
Weekly construction updates: Join us at the Pelican Rapids Public Library each Thursday at noon for in-person construction updates. Business liaison Brent Frazier, and representatives from MnDOT and Landwehr Construction will be there to share updates and answer questions. Please note: there will be no meeting on Thursday, June 19, as the Library is closed in observation of Juneteenth.
-
Businesses remain open during road construction: Access will be maintained to both businesses and residences, but entrances may change or shift as utility replacements and concrete work are underway. How you enter or exit may vary depending on where crews are working, and you may need to park and walk up to some locations. Please check in with your destination to determine the best way to get to them.
-
Thru-traffic and trucks: For those who don’t have a destination in Pelican Rapids, the signed thru-traffic/truck routes outside of town are still be an option. Expect delays in Pelican Rapids during peak travel times.
Signing up for this project email list is just one way to stay informed during construction. There are several different ways you can find information or get your questions answered:
All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather dependent and subject to change. MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution, slow down in work zones where workers are present, and never enter an area that's blocked by barriers or cones.
