The first portion of Highway 108 east, Stages 4A and 4B, closed this week! The road is closed to thru-traffic between 2 1/2 Street and 6th Street, with the detour on 6th Street and 2nd Avenue SE.
Hwy 108 east business access: For those looking to access the clinic, senior living, community pool, park or church on the north side of the road, your best way to get there at this time will be to cross the work zone at 4th Street SE. A temporary passage has been built behind the new pool to connect access from the church's parking lot to the nursing home/clinic lots.
There may be times during construction you'll alternate using 4th Street or 2 1/2 Street to cut across the work zone. If one of these intersections is blocked or barricaded, you'll want to go to the other one. This may vary day-by-day depending on where the crews are working. It's always a good idea to check in with your destination before arriving to know the best way to access them.

2025 Week 2 construction progress
With the road closure on Highway 108 east, in Stages 4A and 4B, crews finished removing pavement and are getting ready for utility replacements to start next week, weather permitting. They'll begin at 2 1/2 Street, working east.
If looking to get to a business on the north side, again we remind you to please use 4th Street to cross the work zone at this time. Drive slowly and with extreme caution, and please watch for equipment and workers. Safety is everyone's job!
On the east side of Highway 59, in Stage 2B, underground utility replacements remain underway as crews replace sanitary sewer. As you may recall from last year's work, underground replacements are a step-by-step process. Once they are finished with sanitary sewer, they'll skip back to the starting line and dig again to replace storm sewer, and so on.
As a reminder, your patience is important. Motorists should expect to stop at the automated signal, and wait until the light turns green before proceeding. Traffic flows one direction at a time, so if entering in the middle of the work zone, please follow the correct direction of traffic. Even during off-hours, when crews aren't present and traffic volumes are low, please obey the signal lights.
Parking and sidewalk restrictions on the east side of the bridge over the Pelican River downtown remain in place, as bridge crews continue with their brick/stone work underneath the bridge. And on Highway 108 west, they're finishing up entrance pipe replacements and shoulder work. No major impacts to traffic at this time, but you may encounter occasional flagging operations if the work moves into the driving lanes. The mainline work on Stages 3A, 3B and 3C still anticipated to begin sometime in August.

Important reminders
-
Weekly construction updates: Join us at the Pelican Rapids Public Library each Thursday at noon for in-person construction updates. Business liaison Brent Frazier, and representatives from MnDOT and Landwehr Construction will be there to share updates and answer questions.
-
Businesses remain open during road construction: Access will be maintained to both businesses and residences, but entrances may change or shift as utility replacements and concrete work are underway. How you enter or exit may vary depending on where crews are working, and you may need to park and walk up to some locations. Please check in with your destination to determine the best way to get to them.
-
Thru-traffic and trucks: For those who don’t have a destination in Pelican Rapids, the signed thru-traffic/truck routes outside of town are still be an option. Expect delays in Pelican Rapids during peak travel times.
Signing up for this project email list is just one way to stay informed during construction. There are several different ways you can find information or get your questions answered:
All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather dependent and subject to change. MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution, slow down in work zones where workers are present, and never enter an area that's blocked by barriers or cones.
