 ROADWORK AHEAD: Upsala to Little Falls
June 2-early August
MnDOT will begin a project on June 2 to resurface and update 19 miles of Hwy 238 between Co. Rd. 19 in Upsala and Hwy 27 west of Little Falls, Morrison County.
The work will be done in segments and travelers can expect road closures with detours.

Detour in Upsala: June 2-23
- Hwy 238 closed to through traffic from north of Co. Rd. 19 to Co. Rd. 227 in Upsala to realign and add a turn lane at Co. Rd. 228 and replace a pipe (A) north of Co. Rd. 19. Detour via Co. Rd. 21 and Co. Rd. 227.
Detour Elmdale to south of Little Falls: June 9 to mid-July
Lane closures Upsala to Little Falls: Mid-July to early August
- Hwy 238 will have segments of one-lane traffic with flaggers and a pilot car to pave the road surface between Upsala and Little Falls. Crews will work weekdays (possible Saturdays), sunrise to sunset, weather permitting.
Road open to those who live, work or visit
Local access will be maintained throughout the project, but drivers should anticipate temporary traffic changes, including hard closures for drainage work. Please enter and exit the work zone using the route nearest to your destination.
MnDOT advises drivers to plan for delays and pay close attention to work zone signage.
When complete in early August, the $6.3 million project, contracted by Knife River Corporation, will improve 19 miles of road surface, drainage and safety.
