It's the first week of the project starting on Highway 114, north of Lowry, and the detour is in place and the road closed to thru-traffic. If you don't have a destination on Highway 114, sticking to the detour on I-94, Highway 29 and Highway 55 is your best option. Highway 27 remains open to cross-traffic. Local traffic is permitted to enter to get to their destination, such as a residence, resort or other business, on Highway 114.
Local traffic should always slow down—please remember you are in an active work zone, even in areas where workers aren't present. Stay alert for loose gravel, heavy equipment and trucks hauling throughout the entire corridor. Thank you for staying committed to safety for all!

Construction progress and schedule
Since Monday, May 12, the focus has been on getting the detour and traffic control devices set up and prepping the work zone. Crews have removed the pavement from the culvert sites. There is loose gravel at these locations, so local traffic is urged to slow down and travel with caution while crossing these areas.
With rain in the forecast over the next several days, we expect the culvert replacements to start as early as Monday, May 19, weather permitting. Starting Monday, for at least the next week or more, local traffic can expect to encounter restrictions and impassable areas between Highway 55 and County Road 26, south of Pocket Lake. Crews will begin on the south end of the project with "Pipe 1" (see map below). There will be a hard closure at the culvert site for 1-3 days, potentially overnight too, then they will move to "Pipe 2," then "Pipe 3" and so on.
For residents and local traffic, you'll need to find an alternate route around the culvert site where the crews are working. You may have to come from the opposite direction you're used to taking, depending on your location and path of travel. That will vary and change as work continues from culvert-to-culvert.
You can ask the workers on-site too if you have questions! They'll know where they'll be located each day and when they'll be wrapping up at each site.

Roundabout construction
Once the culvert work is done, the roundabout construction at the Highway 114/Highway 27 intersection will start. At that time, residents will not be able to access Highway 114 from the Highway 27 intersection. You will have to take the detour and enter from the south, or find an alternate route. More to come as we get closer to that work starting.
We have two years of projects scheduled on Highway 114. This year's project includes culvert replacements between Highway 55 and I-94, and roundabout construction at the intersection of Highway 27 and Highway 114. Next year, we'll come back for another project to resurface the entire roadway.
Check the project website for project information, construction updates, and MnDOT contacts. We're here to help!
All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather dependent and subject to change. MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution, slow down in work zones where workers are present, and never enter an area that's blocked by barriers or cones.
