We're one week into the second year season of the Pelican Rapids complete streets project! Thank you for your patience with the new traffic patterns. Fishing opener weekend is here so we expect to see extra traffic in town. Be prepared to stop and for longer delays during peak traffic times.
As a reminder, your patience is important. Motorists should expect to stop at the automated signal, and wait until the light turns green before proceeding. Traffic flows one direction at a time, so if entering in the middle of the work zone, please follow the correct direction of traffic. Even during off-hours, when crews aren't present and traffic volumes are low, please obey the signal lights.

Portion of Highway 108 east to close May 14
Starting on Wednesday, May 14, weather permitting, work will begin on Stages 4A & 4B on Highway 108 east, between 2 1/2 Street and 6th Street. The road will close in this area, and traffic will be detoured to 6th Street and 2nd Ave SE.
Hwy 108 east business access: For those looking to access the clinic, senior living, community pool, park or church on the north side of the road, you'll alternate using 2 1/2 Street or 4th Street to cut across the work zone. If the intersection is blocked or barricaded, you'll want to go to the other one. This will vary day-by-day depending on where the crews are working. A temporary passage has been built behind the new pool to connect access from the church's parking lot to the nursing home/clinic lots. Big thank you to these folks for being cooperative partners and working together to help maintain access for all during construction.

2025 Week 1 progress
Work on the east side of Highway 59, in Stage 2B, is underway! Removals are complete, and they are working on underground utility replacements. Some of the structures are nearly 20 feet deep, and workers use trench boxes to safely work.
Bridge crews continue working underneath the bridge over the Pelican River downtown, doing what is referred to as "tuckpointing," to remove and repair between the bricks/rocks of the bridge. The parking and sidewalk restrictions on the east side of the bridge remain in place.
There's some prep work starting on the Highway 108 west too. Nothing that should impact traffic too much, mostly entrance pipe replacements and shoulder work. But you may encounter occasional flagging operations at times if the work moves into the driving lanes. We're still anticipating starting on the Highway 108 west stages sometime in August.

Important reminders
-
Businesses remain open during road construction: Access will be maintained to both businesses and residences, but entrances may change or shift as utility replacements and concrete work are underway. How you enter or exit may vary depending on where crews are working, and you may need to park and walk up to some locations. Please check in with your destination to determine the best way to get to them.
-
Thru-traffic and trucks: For those who don’t have a destination in Pelican Rapids, the signed thru-traffic/truck routes outside of town are still be an option. Expect delays in Pelican Rapids during peak travel times.
Signing up for this project email list is just one way to stay informed during construction. There are several different ways you can find information or get your questions answered:
All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather dependent and subject to change. MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution, slow down in work zones where workers are present, and never enter an area that's blocked by barriers or cones.
