D3 - Hwy 12 in Howard Lake, Waverly & Montrose: 2025 construction
Crews will work from April 27 to mid-October 2025 to reconstruct, resurface and improve pedestrian features along Hwy 12.
Construction starts in Howard Lake on Sun, April 27, continues in Waverly in mid-May, and begins in Montrose in mid-July.
What to expect in Howard Lake
April 27 to May 3
- Overnight closures (7 p.m. to 7 a.m.) between 10th Ave. and Seventh Ave.
- Follow detour signs along 10th Ave., Seventh St. and Seventh Ave. Detour map (PNG)
- During this time, crews will replace pipes beneath the road.
May 5 to mid-July
- Hwy 12 will stay open with one lane in each direction from west of 13th Ave. to east of Sixth Ave.
- Drivers should expect narrow lanes, lane shifts, gravel surfaces and flaggers directing traffic. Shoulders and turn lanes will close temporarily.
- Work will occur mostly between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Crews will pave Hwy 12 with new asphalt, repair curbs, gutters and entrances, and upgrade sidewalks and ramps. In downtown Howard Lake, they will widen sidewalks and update crosswalk signals.
 Next stops
- Waverly work kicks off in mid-May.
- Montrose follows in mid-July.
Everything will wrap up this fall with the final road paving and permanent markings in each city, all scheduled to be finished by mid-October.
Hwy 12 is open
Access to businesses and residents will be maintained and open during this project. However, expect use of alternate entrances or side streets, includes sidewalk detours.
When complete in mid-October, the project will create smoother roads and improve safety for drivers and pedestrians on Hwy 12.
